Archiving and Digital Preservation Policy

The Journal of Community Engagement in Health (JCEH) recognizes digital preservation as an essential component of responsible scholarly publishing. The journal is committed to safeguarding the continuity, authenticity, and accessibility of its published research to support long-term scholarly communication and protect the integrity of the academic record.
JNP implements its archiving policy through the preservation of published articles and their associated bibliographic information. The policy is informed by established principles of publication ethics, including relevant recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and is intended to support the continued availability of scholarly content beyond the operational lifespan of any individual publishing platform.

1. Digital Content Archiving
JCEH maintains digital records of its published articles, including the version of record and associated bibliographic metadata. These records serve as the journal's official publication archive and provide essential information for identifying, retrieving, and citing published research.
In addition to maintaining content on its official publishing website, JCEH uses the Internet Archive as a supplementary digital archiving service. This approach is intended to provide an additional means of accessing published content and to reduce reliance on a single online distribution platform.

2. Digital Preservation and Continuity of Access
JCEH aims to sustain access to its published scholarly content over the long term. Its preservation practices are designed to help mitigate the risks associated with website migration, technical disruption, changes in publishing infrastructure, or interruptions to journal operations.
The journal seeks to maintain the availability of archived publications and their identifying information so that previously published research can continue to be discovered, accessed, and referenced. The effectiveness of these arrangements depends on the continued operation and availability of the platforms and services involved.

3. Access to Archived Publications
Readers may access published articles through the official JCEH website and, where copies are available, through the Internet Archive. Archived materials are intended to support the continued consultation and citation of previously published research. The existence of an archived copy does not replace the official Version of Record or independently change an article's publication status. Any formal change to a published article is communicated through the journal's established post-publication procedures.

4. Preservation of the Scholarly Record and Post-Publication Updates
JCEH is committed to maintaining a transparent and reliable record of its publications. When an article becomes subject to a correction, retraction, Expression of Concern, or another formal editorial action, the journal will preserve the relevant publication history and provide an appropriate notice in accordance with the nature of the action.
Where technically and operationally feasible, the notice will be linked to the affected article to help readers identify its current status. Previously archived copies may remain available through external preservation services; therefore, JCEH will seek to ensure that the official publication record clearly communicates any subsequent editorial decisions.
These procedures are intended to preserve the traceability of scholarly work while upholding publication ethics, editorial accountability, and the integrity of the scholarly record.

5. Policy Implementation and Review
JCEH considers digital archiving an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time storage activity. The journal may review its preservation arrangements as its publishing infrastructure, technical requirements, and available preservation services evolve.
The use of the Internet Archive forms part of the journal's current supplementary archiving arrangements and does not constitute a guarantee against every form of data loss or service interruption. JCEH may consider additional preservation mechanisms where appropriate and feasible to strengthen the resilience of its digital archive.

6. Official Policy Statement
JCEH is committed to preserving its published research and supporting continued access to the scholarly record through digital archiving, the maintenance of bibliographic information, and the use of supplementary archiving services, including the Internet Archive.
Through these measures, the journal seeks to promote the long-term discoverability, traceability, and integrity of its publications. JCEH will continue to evaluate its archiving practices in accordance with its operational capacity, evolving preservation needs, and relevant principles of responsible scholarly publishing.
